2026 Willow Oak Center for Arts & Learning Updates

If  you’ve been following our weekly emails and social media posts, you’ve seen the classes we’re offering and the camps scheduled for this summer.  But please, make no mistake about it.  We’re in a challenging time and we need your help.  There have been questions circulating about the future of Willow Oak Center for Arts & Learning.

We want to address them clearly and directly:  Willow Oak is not closing.

Like many arts organizations across the country, we have felt the weight of a tightening economy and the reduction of grant funding for the arts. In order to ensure long-term stability, we made the difficult decision in January to release our paid staff. These were not decisions made lightly and the only way we could move forward.

Today, Willow Oak Center for Arts & Learning is operating as a 100% board-led nonprofit with a volunteer interim executive director. We are supported by dedicated community members who have stepped forward to offer professional expertise and consultation pro bono as we restructure thoughtfully and responsibly.

Robertson County deserves a place for the arts. It deserves a space where creativity is nurtured, where history is honored, and where innovation has room to grow. We are committed to ensuring that Willow Oak continues to serve that role especially as we celebrate our 19th birthday in July…19 years of offering opportunities in the arts not only to Robertson County, but to Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky.

As we move forward, we are reshaping the organization with sustainability at the center. Our vision includes expanding offerings to meet both cultural and workforce needs, from hands-on creative classes like upholstery, to architecture lectures focused on our historic district, to certification programs in areas such as graphic design or other creative careers. Our goal is to become a true arts and creative workforce hub for this region.

We’ve been hard at work. But to continue to operate, we need the support of the community.

We have launched The Founding 60: a campaign to secure 60 committed monthly donors who will provide the financial stability necessary during this transition. At present, 40 individuals have already stepped forward as recurring supporters. We are seeking at least 20 more.

A minimum commitment of $40 per month provides critical operating support as we rebuild programming, pursue new partnerships, and strengthen our foundation,  all while continuing to offer the amazing classes and performing opportunities that Willow Oak is known for.
